What is it with pillows? I'm not buying any more toys...my boys play with pillows and boxes more than their toys! Here they are having fun in Grandma's living room.

Mother's Day...Moving Weekend 05-08-2009
Mother's Day weekend was also moving weekend for us. We closed on the new house May 1 and it was time to empty the storage room. Thanks to Matt's parents, we were able to get it all done. Matt and Pop did most of the heavy lifting while Grammy picked the kids up from school, took our cars to be inspected and just generally spoiled us all. Matt finished off the weekend with a Mother's Day talk Sunday morning in Sacrament, as if we didn't already have enough going on! Here are a few pictures of our busy weekend...
Friday started out with breakfast at What-a-Burger before school

Here's what the house looked like on moving day

Brett's Parent Day Celebration 05-06-2009
Brett's school had a Parent Day program the week of Mother's Day. It is for dads and moms since school is out at Fater's Day. They always have a little program and sing Skidamarink to us and we have treats. Mrs. Elliott makes us little scrapbooks of the kids all year. This year, Brett was quite the comic as you can see from these pictures.
And caught on film, Brett tattling to the teacher:
And a little video of part of their performance:
Building Hangliders 05-03-2009
We took the boys to build hangliders at Lowe's this weekend. They couldn't wait to get back to Grandpa's backyard to test them out...here they are getting ready to send one down the string and the little blur on the left of the last picture is the glider actually moving down the string. They thought it was great!

It's been a while...
Yes, I know you all thought I disappeared from the blogging world...no, I've kept my pictures all organized so I could post them as soon as I had more than time to check my email at the computer! So, bear with me...there are going to be a bunch of posts to follow...all the way back to before Mother's Day...

Brett thinks he's a rock star!
When we first got our Wii last year, we had no games for it except the Sports one that comes with it, so I borrowed DDR from a friend of mine (thanks, Alisa!). The boys LOVED it and played it so much that they learned some of the songs and still sing them even though that was way before Christmas last year! One of their favorites is "Lips of an Angel" which is really not suitable for kids to sing (or listen to, truthfully) because it's basically about a guy potentially cheating on his girlfriend with his ex...but the kids sing their own "words" to it, how they think it goes, and I'm not going to correct them. Fortunately, Brett likes to sing it so much that he allowed me to get it on a video. As for his hair in this, well, maybe it's been his small exposure to American Idol this season. Enjoy!
Brett's words:
The real words:
It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak
And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

OK...I have to brag on Jace...
Jace has reached a number of academic achievements this year. Here's Jace with his reading medal for making it to the 100-Point Club at school (see below for the full story):
Here are his math patches for doing 30 addition problems in less than 2 minutes and 30 subtraction problems in less than 2 minutes. We sewed them on his backpack...
A close-up of his reading medal:
And a close-up of his Pizza Hut Book It! All Star Reader award:
I can't help it...I have to brag on Jace because I'm so proud of him! This year he has come so far in school, especially reading. At his school, they do the Accelerated Reader program in the library. This is where you check out certain books, read them, and then come back to the library and take a comprehension test on them. He did a few last year and ended up with 10 points or so, and then this year he has really taken off with it. All of the small books and short chapter books are 1/2 point each, and then as the difficulty and length of the book goes up, so do the points. Anyway, at the beginning of the year, Jace decided that he wanted to make it to the 100-point club this year. With his lax attitude about reading, we really didn't think it was possible for him to make it this year. Around Christmas time, we discovered that his new school for next year doesn't have the AR program (his points would have transferred if they had the program, but they don't), so he decided that for sure he would try to get it. For a couple of years now he has begged to read Harry Potter. I'm a huge Harry fan, and I really wanted him to love the books as much as Matt and I do, so I kind of wanted him to wait. He began asking me every day if he could read them, so Matt and I finally decided if he's begging to read, we should let him try. So, he started in on the first one. At first it was slow going...he'd read a couple pages and then one of us would read the rest of the chapter to him. By the end of the first book, though, he was hooked and read it again, mostly on his own the second time. We soon found out part of his motivation for wanting to read it so badly...it was worth 12 points if he got all the questions right on the AR test. After finishing it for the 2nd time, we found some trivia tests online for him to practice before taking the AR test. He took the test and got a 100 on it! As his reward, he got to watch the first Harry Potter movie, and he loved it. That night, he was begging to read the 2nd one (worth 13 points)...he read it, took some practice trivia, and got a 100 on it too! After all that and taking little 1/2 point tests along the way, he was almost there. I'm proud to report that he made it this week to the 100 point club...well before school is out! As an added bonus, his reading speed and comprehension level have risen considerably since reading Harry Potter. Those books are magical, in more ways than one! We took him to pizza hut with his Book It! certificate for a free personal pan pizza for a celebration and he got another award there for meeting all his reading goals for this year. We are so happy for him to reach his goal! Way to go, Jace!
