I got to go on Jace's GT field trip with him this year. They went over to UTSA to their archeology department for a fun morning of hunting for clues to the past.
Here they are using brushes to find pieces of pots, tools, toys, etc in a mock dig. They had to record where they found the pieces, the material they were made of and what they looked like.
